Israeli Military Establishes New Corridor in Gaza

(MENAFN) The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that it has established a newly constructed corridor that cuts across the city of Khan Younis in the southern portion of the Gaza Strip.

The newly implemented route, known as Magen Oz, spans close to 15 kilometers and effectively divides the city into eastern and western sectors, according to statements released by the military.

“Stretching approximately 15 kilometers, this corridor serves as a key component in applying pressure on Hamas and achieving the decisive defeat of its Khan Yunis Brigade,” the army claimed in a statement.

Up until now, the Israeli forces have disclosed several military pathways including the Netzarim axis, which acts as a dividing line between northern Gaza and the remainder of the enclave; the Philadelphi Corridor along the Gaza-Egypt boundary; and the Morag axis, which partitions the areas of Rafah and Khan Younis.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has reportedly been using the continued operation of these corridors as a justification to delay indirect discussions with Hamas.

While the Palestinian faction has already agreed to earlier peace proposals and is calling for a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza, Netanyahu insists on preserving these military routes to prolong the campaign in the region.

Despite mounting international demands for a ceasefire, Israel has sustained a relentless assault on Gaza since late October 2023.

The ongoing violence has resulted in the deaths of nearly 58,500 Palestinians, the majority of whom are reported to be women and children.
