UN Warns of Surge in Settler Violence in Occupied Palestinian Areas

(MENAFN) UN experts on Monday expressed deep concern over a significant increase in violence by Israeli settlers in the occupied Palestinian territory, warning that the trend is threatening the survival of Palestinian communities and increasing the risk of forced displacement.

According to reports, the experts said attacks attributed to settlers, which they allege occur with the support or tolerance of Israeli authorities, have become a constant source of fear for Palestinians and are contributing to conditions that push residents to leave their homes and lands.

"The escalating violence, carried out with full impunity, serves as an instrument of coercion in the hands of the occupying power, facilitating ethnic cleansing," they said.

The statement noted that incidents involving settler violence have reached what the experts described as unprecedented levels during 2026. According to reports, at least 13 Palestinians have been killed and nearly 500 others injured during the first five months of the year, exceeding comparable figures recorded in previous years.

The experts highlighted that Palestinian communities located in Area C of the occupied West Bank have been among the hardest hit by the violence and its consequences. Areas such as the Jordan Valley and the South Hebron Hills were specifically identified as regions experiencing severe pressure from both attacks and displacement.

According to reports, the experts warned that the continued deterioration of conditions on the ground could further undermine the ability of Palestinian communities to remain in their homes, raising concerns about the long-term demographic and humanitarian impact of the violence.
