Israeli Measures Trap Palestinian Female Footballer Under House Arrest
The 20-year-old athlete was initially summoned for questioning at the Talpiot police station in west Jerusalem last Tuesday, but the situation escalated into detention, leaving her temporarily away from the field.
She was later brought before a court, which extended her detention before authorities ordered her release on Monday under house arrest conditions.
Al-Halawani is regarded as one of the rising talents in Palestinian women’s football. She has played for Sareyyet Ramallah and represented Palestinian youth national teams before advancing to the senior women’s national squad.
In 2025, she gained international club experience when she joined Jordan’s Nashama al-Mustaqbal academy, helping the team secure the Jordanian under-19 women’s league title.
Her playing career was interrupted following the incident, which began with her summons for questioning and ended in detention and restricted movement imposed by authorities.
